We are smack dab in the middle of the summer heat right now, but fall is coming, and as it approaches so do many of the special releases from the big distilleries. TTB labels are starting to hit, and the label for this year’s Master’s Collection expression from Woodford Reserve was just approved. It looks like it’ll be the classic Woodford Reserve recipe with some extra aged laid on in the form of Brandy Casks and proofed down to the Chris Morris’s favorite number of 90.4. Now, I’m not the biggest Brandy fan, and I’ve recently had the realization that I’m not a fan of finished Bourbons in general, but this one is kind of intriguing.
From our perspective, last year’s 1838 White Corn release was somewhat polarizing among the whiskey community, and 2014’s Sonoma-Cutrer Pinot Noir lost favor with me somewhat quickly, but maybe there is something to this Brandy barrel thing. Honestly right now it’s just making me want to break out one of the Prairie Apple Brandy Noirs out of my cellar and go to down on it. Anyways, I digress.
So yeah, I’m guessing that one of us here at Barrels and Mash will snag a bottle of this when it hits and take it for a spin, so we’ll report back with those findings as soon as we can.
I am in for this one!
