Welcome to the first edition of the Barrels and Mash survey series! We thought it would be fun to to ask some cool people some random questions and take a break from the hard-hitting and award-winning professional journalism that you have come to know and love from us here at Barrels and Mash.
Now that Oklahoma breweries can sell full strength beer directly to the public, chances are that you’ll be seeing more of your favorite local brewers as you visit their respective breweries for pints, growler fills, and brewery-only releases. So, it seemed like a good time to ask some of them a couple of questions so we can get to know them better and maybe arm ourselves with a nice icebreaker or two for when we find ourselves on opposite sides of the bar or wondering around their taprooms.
For this series, we sent 5 Oklahoma brewers the same set of random questions and will be posting them as they come back. Let’s do it!
The Man – Trae Carson
The Questions
What’s your name, and where do you brew?
Trae Carson – 405 Brewing Co.
Do you have any kids? If so, which one is your favorite?
My cat Nemo is the shit. He’s the size of a bobcat and he plays fetch like a dog. Badass
Which movie is better: Ghost or The Bodyguard?
I assume that you mistyped your question and that the choices were Ghostbusters or the Bodyguard. My answer is Ghostbusters… Always Ghostbusters… Don’t forget, 405 has a beer named after the opening scene of Ghostbusters. ESP
When not drinking beer, what is your go-to alcoholic beverage?
I do enjoy the bourb.
Look deep into your heart, do you still consider Pluto a planet? Why or Why not?
Pluto is a dog not a planet, duh. Everyone knows this.
In your opinion, what’s the best beer town in America and why?
Milwaukee. I’ve thrown up in the streets of Milwaukee more times than any other major beer city. I highly recommend the Lakefront brewery tour followed by Wolski’s bar!
Do you have any unreasonable fears?
Sparkly jean bums.
Of all the beers you have brewed, what is your personal favorite?
None. Do painters have a favorite painting? I think not. Each beer is a unique expression. Just kidding. FDR
Of all the actors that have portrayed Batman over the years, which one is YOUR Batman?
Christopher Reeves. Superman could always kill Batman. The movie is wrong…
But clearly Val Kilmer is the best Batman and my favorite. ICE MAN!
I’d most like to see Hugh Jackman play Batman.
Oh yeah, my wife’s favorite Batman is Christian Bale.
What was the first beer you ever brewed?
A 200 IBU 9% Pale Ale.
Do you have anything you want to promote?
Disneyworld, the rap group A.Dd+, and Boycotts of Mr. Pibb,
1 more brewer to go! Next up will be Matt Denham from Roughtail Brewing. If you have any suggestions on people to survey or questions to ask, feel free to let us know.
