Roughtail continues to put out tasty, hoppy beers in 16 oz cans. Again this one is brewery only, and again they disappear fast. Well worth the effort in spite of an inexplicable forced double entendre. Made with flaked wheat for a soft creamy mouthfeel and packed with Citra and Galaxy hops.
Company: Roughtail Brewing Co.
Location: Midwest City, OK
ABV: 5.5%
IBUs: 50
Style/Description: American Pale Ale
Price: $12.00 per four pack of 16 oz cans
Appearance: Pours a lightly cloudy orange, with nice fluffy head and lace clinging to the glass.
Nose: All fruity citrus aroma, big time fruity hops. Pineapple, orange, grapefruit, yum.
Taste: Definitely a citrusy pale ale from Roughtail, full of that almost signature Citra fruit flavor. Orange juice and some pineapple, with a healthy dose of bitter pithy grapefruit peel. Some moderate woody, bitter resins help balance the sweetness of the citrus and wheat. Mouthfeel is a little bit creamier than usually perhaps, due in part to the wheat and I would suspect that the carbonation may have been dialed down a bit.
Finish: Clean finish, with more orange lingering on the palate and wafting into the nose as the beer goes down.
Overall: Definitely a tasty brew here. Not breaking much new ground here, but a solid addition to the arsenal of Roughtail pale recipes. I probably could have enjoyed this beer as much or more without being reminded that nocturnal emissions exist, but I’ll be visiting the brewery every time this one is released in the future.
