Yay! Another Four Roses Oklahoma barrel pick! Hopefully, this means that the door is open, and we’ll being seeing a lot more of these in the future. This pick was done by The Winston, which is an amazing bar located in Norman, OK. They have fantastic cocktails, whisk(e)ys, beers, food, you name it. Go there. They’re affiliated with PubW, which is another great restaurant and pub you have to visit when you are in Oklahoma.
Back to the Bourbon! This interestingly enough is OESV, which is the same mash bill as the last Oklahoma barrel pick I reviewed, so that means a direct comparison is needed! Luckily, I still have some of the other! This one was aged 10 years and 2 months, whereas the other one was 10 years and 6th months, except this one is from Warehouse PS, barrel number 26-1M. The other difference is the proof, this one is 104.6 and the other is 120.8.
The other one I reviewed was picked by Central Liquor Company and can be found here. If you would like to check out any of my other Four Roses reviews you can find the link here. If you want to know all about the different mash bills or yeast, please go to Bourbonr, they’ve really nailed down the mash bill break down.
Company: Kirin
Distillery: Four Roses Distillery
Location: Near Lawrenceburg, KY
Mash bill: OESV, “E” means, 75% corn, 20% rye, 5% malted barley.
Age: 10 years, 2 months
ABV: 52.3% (104.6 proof)
Released: Chosen by The Winston, very limited.
Price: $65
Color: Amber girl
Nose: Vanilla, oak, cinnamon, lemon, orange, cherry candy, cane sugar.
Taste: It has that candy flavor like the other Oklahoma pick, but more of a cherry candy. Sugar, loads of vanilla, cinnamon, cherry candy, like a sweet and spicy cherry candy, yum. Also, oily and has a great mouthfeel.
Finish: Slightly hot finish that sits on your tongue, and moves down your throat, but dissipates fairly quick that lovely warm whiskey feeling.
Overall: I love Four Roses, especially the single barrels and this one is no different. If you see one, definitely pick it up, because it’s super hard to find. Plus, The Winston is awesome, and you should support local. I do think this one has an edge over the other Oklahoma barrel because it’s better balanced and I enjoy the cherry candy over the cinnamon candy, and this one has a better mouthfeel. But, if you see either of them on the shelves don’t hesitate to grab them! Plus, it’s really fun to collect the different mash bills in the single barrel form and you can try them all an decided which one is your favorite. Personally my favorite is OBSF! But, I would love to hear which mash bill is your favorite! Let me know in the comments section!
